Jakarta, UIN News Online – Social Welfare Department (Kesos) of the Faculty of Da’wah and Communication Sciences (FIDK) UIN Jakarta host the first International Conference on Diversity and Disability Inclusion in Muslim Societies: Experiences from Asia (DDIMS). This conference is jointly organized with the Institute for Religion, Politics and Society, the Australian Catholic University (ACU) and the Institute for Culture and Society, University of Western Sydney (UWS), Tuesday-Wednesday (11/21-22/2017), at Grand Wijaya Hall, GrandDhika Hotel, Jakarta.
Based on the release obtained by UIN News Online team, this conference is aimed to generate greater understanding of the unique experiences of Muslim communities in Asia, and processes that engage, promote and enact practices of diversity and inclusion for community development and social cohesion. The conference will bring researchers, practitioners, disability and diversity activists, government officials and students in a collaborative forum of intercultural dialogue and sharing of their work and experiences in this field.
“Particularly, the event was initiated by Dr. Dina Afrianty (ACU), Dr. Keren Soldatic, and Dr. Arief Subhan through research that has been implemented since 2016, with a program of strengthening research on disabilities in Islamic Education,” said one of the event organizer to UIN News Online team.
Rector of UIN Jakarta Prof Dr Dede Rosyada MA in his opening remarks said that Student with special need have equal opportunities in developing the ability to achieve his/her goals. “We will facilitate the student with special need to study in UIN Jakarta. Additionally, we will prepare both structure and infrastructure to support the learning activities,” said Rector.
On the same occasion, the Rector also said that UIN Jakarta will establish UIN Center for Student with special Need.
Present as keynote speakers, Prof Dr Azyumardi Azra (UIN Jakarta, Indonesia), Associate Professor Megan Watkins (WSU, Australia), Dr. Dinesha Samaratne (University of Colombo), Dr. Karen Soldatic (ARC DECRA Research Fellow Institute for Culture and Society, WSU, Australia), and Dr. Dina Afrianty (Postdoctoral Research fellow Institute for Religion, Politics, and Society (IRPS) ACU, Australia).
For information, this event was held in a panel discussion format, and raising some themes on; inclusive education, child and family services, social diversity and inclusion, women, gender and sexuality, and legal and political policies. (usa)
