OIC Secretary-General Addresses the Conference on “Women in Islam”, organized by Pakistan in New York

The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), HE Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, delivered today, 8 March 2023, a video-recorded speech at the High-level Segment of the Conference on “Women in Islam: Understanding the rights and Identity of women in the Islamic World”, organized by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, on the side line of the 67th session of the CSW in New York.

The Conference addressed the persistent misperceptions and unfolded fallacies that still linger about the rights granted by Islam to women, entailing some thoughtful debunking through and enlighten understanding of authentic Islamic values.

The High-Level segment of the conference started with an opening remarks delivered by HE Mr. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Chair of the 48th Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), followed by remarks addressed by high-level dignitaries and representatives from the UN and from OIC Member States. The session was moderated by HE the Minister of State for the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar.

In his speech, HE the OIC Secretary General, commended the efforts of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Chair of the 48th CFM, for its estimable efforts in promoting women’s status and empowerment in all fields and for its active role in supporting the OIC goals and efforts towards preserving Muslim women’s rights and enhancing their role in development across the OIC Member States.

The speech of OIC Secretary General also carried a message of encouragement and reassurance to all women in OIC Member States and around the globe, on the occasion of the Women’s International Day, on the strong believe and trust in their capacities and capabilities to lead and participate effectively in the development of their countries.

HE Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, affirmed that Islam has always recognized the role of women in shaping development in societies and upheld the dignity and rights of women to participate all spheres of life including their full rights for education, work and social participation.
