PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has been urged to invite credible religious leaders in the country for godly advice and spiritual suggestions to tackle the myriad of challenges facing the country.
The Chief Missioner of Aonu-Sunnah Islamic Da’wah Academy, Angwan Gwari, Suleja, Niger State, Sheikh Yusuf Abdussalam Jabratah, gave this advice on Sunday during the second annual national conference of the academy, with the theme, ‘Contemporary Muslims’ Approach Towards Life’s Challenges: A Disturbing Trend’.
He said that while it is incumbent on the citizenry to act righteously, it is also important for the leaders, especially those in government, to act right.
“The government is trying, they should try more to ensure the welfare of the citizens. The way things are going presently is not okay with everybody. So, they should try to make sure that they work very hard to cater for the citizens of Nigeria, to get us out of this hardship.
“They (the government) should call the people of God, the God-fearing among the imams, the God-fearing among the pastors, to tell them what God says and they should try to use it. They shouldn’t govern the citizens of Nigeria with only what they read in the book.
“They should try to follow what Allah says, what Prophet Muhammad said. If they can follow the Qur’an and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad, there would be solutions to the hardship and the calamity that we are facing in the country,” Sheikh Jabratah said.
He urged Nigerians to be patient and ensure they apply the Qur’an and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad in their lives and appealed to the leaders and the led alike to use the occasion of the 64th Independence Anniversary to tackle corruption, which is the bane of development in the country.
Also, the Chief Imam, Daaru Na’im Central Mosque, Isheri-Olofin, Lagos State, Sheikh Imran Abdul-Majeed Eleha, said that the problem with Nigeria is mostly with the citizens rather than only those in government.
“Nigerians have always complained about all of the governments in power, from IBB, Jonathan, Buhari to others. This means that it is not those in government but the people themselves.
“Nigerians should know that the problems of the country are with the people based on their behaviours. Prophet Muhammad said that a nation would not be involved in giving less in measure and weight, and decrease the rights of others without Allah subjecting them to three trials of hunger, inflation and that their leaders would be unjust to them,” Sheikh Eleha said.
He said that if Nigerians can give full measures in goods and services, everything would be back to normal in the country, and the government must rise to the occasion in that regard.
